6+ Biopics on sports-person in bollywood

Three sports biopics are set to release this year. Let's see biopics on sports personality made so far in bollywood.

• DANGAL
This Indian biographical sports drama film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The film stars Aamir Khan portraying the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat, who taught wrestling to his daughters Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat. Geeta Phogat was India's first female wrestler to win at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, where she won the gold medal (55 kg) while her sister Babita Kumari won the silver (51 kg). Dangal is scheduled to release on 23 December 2016.




• M.S. DHONI : The Untold Story

M.S. Dhoni : The Untold Story is a Bollywood biographical film directed by Neeraj Pandey. The film is based on the life of Indian cricketer and the current ODI captain of the Indian national cricket team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The film features Sushant Singh Rajput in the leading role as Dhoni, Kiara Advani as Sakshi Dhoni and Disha Patani as his ex-girlfriend.  The film released on September 30.

• BUDHIYA SINGH: born to run

Budhiya Singh is a child prodigy from Odisha who is world's youngest marathon runner. He ran from Bhubaneshwar to Puri (65 kms) at the age of four. In the movie, Manoj Bajpayee enacts the the role of his coach Biranchi Das.

• AZHAR

Azhar (2016) is an upcoming Indian biographical sports film directed by Tony D'Souza. It is based on the life of former Indian international cricketer, Mohammad Azharuddin who was accused of match-fixing. But, he got a clean chit from A Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, which in November 2012 set aside a previous lifetime ban.
Emraan Hashmi will play Azharuddin alongside Prachi Desai, Nargis Fakhri, and Huma Qureshi. The role of Naureen was first offered to Pakistani actress Urwa Hocane by Ekta Kapoor, but she refused, stating she didn't want to do bold scenes.It is scheduled for release on 13 May 2016.

• PAAN SINGH TOMAR

Based on the story of  athelete turned rebel(baaghi) Paan Singh Tomar who won a gold medal at the Indian National Games. This film is directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and titular role is done by Irfaan Khan.
The film gained critical acclaim and emerged as a superhit at the box-office. It also won the Best Feature Film and Best Actor in the 60th National Film Awards 2012. It paved the way for other sports biopic.

• BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG

This film sketches the life of "Flying Sikh" Milkha Singh, an Indian athlete who was a national champion runner and an Olympian..This project is helmed by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra (Rang de Basanti fame). Farhan Akhtar enacts the role of Milkha Singh in the movie.

• MARY KOM

The film depicts Mary Kom's journey of becoming a boxer to her victory at the 2008 World Boxing Championships in Ningbo. This film is directed by Omung Kumar and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film stars Priyanka Chopra in the lead role of the eponymous boxer.
The film won the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment honor at the 62nd National Film Awards and was nominated at the 60th Filmfare Awards in the Best Film and the Best Actress (Priyanka Chopra) categories.
